Goa: ‘Ban heavy vehicles on Costi bridge’
Clearly stating that the condition “may cause collapse of the minor bridge”, the site inspection report suggests that it be closed for heavy traffic until suitable rehabilitation measures are taken.
MARGAO: Villagers of Costi -Kalay have demanded that the authorities ban the movement of heavy vehiclesalong bridge that connects the village to Curchorem given the dilapidated condition of the structure.
Following complaints by Yuva Sena, a youth organisation from the village, Sanguem deputy collector Ajay Gawde, along with PWD officials, recently inspected the bridge to assess its structural condition.
The site inspection report prepared by executive engineer, PWD Div XVIII (Roads), dated June 20, points out to “excessive scouring” near the bottom of the pier on the Kalay side of the bridge “which has caused settlement of pier portion”.
Clearly stating that the condition “may cause collapse of the minor bridge”, the report suggests that it be closed for heavy traffic until suitable rehabilitation measures are taken.
“The bridge is used by villagers of Costi and Kalay, including school children ,” president of Yuva Sena Amar Naik said.
He also urged PWD minister Dipak Pauskar, who is the local MLA, to ensure that repairs of the bridge are undertaken immediately.
