No permit required on commercial use of EVs, alternate fuel vehicles : Gadkari
NEW DELHI: On the 58th convention of SIAM, Nitin Gadkari, Minister of Road Transport and Highways on Thursday announced that electric vehicle and altrenate fuel vehicle used for commercial purpose will not require permit to ply on roads.
"We are also taking Bio-CNG into consideration," he added.
Permits such as contract carriage buses permit, carrier permits, good carriers, cabs and all India tourist permit are given to different categories of commercial vehicles by state governments. But getting these permits is a time-taking and costly process for vehicle and fleet owners.
After this annoucement, it is intended that it will push electric vehicles and alerante fuels on road.
This announcement will further also encourage taxi aggregators Ola which is planning to put 10,000 electric vehicle on road in 12 months.
At present many fleet owners have to go through a long process of getting permits and licences. Therefore, industry believes that the this move will definitely accelerate the use of electric vehicles and alternate fuel vehicle especially on the fleet side as many fleet owners had to go through a long process of getting permits and licenses. Moreover, more and more public transport using electricity and alternate fuel will help curb the pollution on the road.
In his his speech Gadkari also emphasized upon road safety, new road projects and demolishing of speed governors.
